Dilution

The process of adding a base fluid, typically water or oil, to a drilling fluid to reduce the concentration of solids, viscosity, or other properties. This is a common method to manage mud properties and counteract the accumulation of drilled solids. Dilution rates are carefully controlled to maintain fluid performance.
