Electromagnetic thickness
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001285
A casing and tubing inspection measurement in which a transmitter coil induces eddy currents in the pipe wall and receiver coils record the amplitude and phase delay of the returning field, which change with the amount of metal. Low-frequency designs can measure through an inner tubing string to estimate the thickness of the outer casing. The result is expressed as wall thickness or as percent metal loss against nominal.
