Gas coning
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-001616
The upward movement of free gas into a producing oil wellbore, forming a cone shape in the reservoir. This occurs when the pressure drawdown during oil production is too high, causing the gas-oil contact to rise unevenly. Gas coning reduces oil production efficiency and increases the gas-oil ratio, often necessitating production rate adjustments.
