Guided wave

A seismic wave that propagates within a specific layer or waveguide in the Earth, where its energy is trapped by velocity contrasts at the boundaries of the layer. These waves can travel long distances with relatively little attenuation. Examples include channel waves in coal seams or tube waves in boreholes.
