Lead acetate test

A qualitative test used to detect the presence of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) in natural gas or other hydrocarbon streams. A strip of paper impregnated with lead acetate solution changes color, typically to brown or black, in the presence of H2S. This test provides a quick indication of sour gas, which is corrosive and toxic.
