Neutron capture
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002532
The process where a neutron is absorbed by an atomic nucleus, leading to the emission of gamma rays. In well logging, this phenomenon is used in pulsed neutron tools to measure the macroscopic thermal neutron capture cross-section of formations. This measurement provides information about formation fluid salinity and porosity.
