Pendant-drop tensiometer
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002728
An optical instrument that measures interfacial tension between two immiscible fluids by analyzing the shape of a droplet of one fluid suspended in another. A camera captures the profile of the drop, which is distorted from a perfect sphere by the balance between gravitational forces and surface tension. The interfacial tension is calculated by fitting the drop's shape to the Young-Laplace equation, with results expressed in millinewtons per meter (mN/m).
