Pinion shaft
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-002795
The component of a gear system that carries the smaller of two meshing gears, known as the pinion. In a pumping unit, the pinion shaft transmits rotational power from the prime mover's gearbox to the large bull gear, which in turn drives the walking beam. This shaft is supported by bearings and is designed to withstand the high torque and rotational stresses involved in lifting the sucker rod string.
