Transtension
Term · Oil and gas · MLC-T-OAG-003901
A type of deformation that combines strike-slip motion with a component of extension, resulting in both horizontal shearing and stretching of the crust. This tectonic regime often creates pull-apart basins, grabens, and normal faults. Transtension can lead to the formation of sedimentary basins that are favorable for hydrocarbon accumulation.
