Adsorption hysteresis

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000288

The phenomenon where the amount of gas adsorbed by a porous material at a given relative pressure during adsorption is different from the amount desorbed at the same relative pressure. This difference creates a loop in the adsorption-desorption isotherm, often attributed to capillary condensation and differences in pore filling and emptying mechanisms. It provides insights into the pore structure of the adsorbent.
