Autoimmune lymphoproliferative syndrome

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-000977

A rare genetic disorder characterized by the chronic, non-malignant proliferation of lymphocytes, leading to the enlargement of the spleen, liver, and lymph nodes. The condition results from a failure of apoptosis (programmed cell death) in lymphocytes, causing them to accumulate. Patients often develop autoimmune phenomena, such as cytopenias, and have an increased lifetime risk of developing lymphoma.
