Backflush
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001072
A process in membrane filtration where the direction of fluid flow is temporarily reversed through the membrane. This reversal dislodges accumulated foulants and particulate matter from the membrane surface or pores, restoring flux and extending the membrane's operational lifespan. It is a common cleaning method for microfiltration and ultrafiltration systems.
