Backscattering analysis

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001083

An analytical technique that involves directing a beam of energetic particles (e.g., alpha particles or ions) at a sample and detecting the particles that are scattered backward. The energy and intensity of the backscattered particles provide information about the elemental composition and depth profile of the sample. Rutherford backscattering spectrometry is a prominent example of this method.
