Backward chaining

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001090

A goal-driven inference strategy used in expert systems and artificial intelligence, where the system starts with a desired conclusion or goal and works backward to find the necessary conditions or facts that support it. This method is particularly useful for diagnostic problems or when the number of possible outcomes is limited. It contrasts with forward chaining, which is data-driven.
