Bead-rod model
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001159
A model of a flexible chain macromolecule as a sequence of beads, each exerting hydrodynamic drag on the surrounding fluid, joined by rigid rods that exert none, with the orientations of successive rods random. It is used to simulate hydrodynamic properties such as intrinsic viscosity and the translational diffusion coefficient. It differs from the bead-spring model, in which elastic springs rather than rigid rods link the beads.
