Bronchial provocation test
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001506
A diagnostic procedure to assess airway hyperresponsiveness, a hallmark of asthma. The test involves having a patient inhale controlled, increasing doses of a substance, such as methacholine, histamine, or a specific allergen, while lung function is monitored. A positive test is indicated by a 20% or greater fall in the forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1).
