Cell strain
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001780
A subpopulation of cells derived from a primary culture that has been selected for specific characteristics or has undergone a limited number of passages in vitro. Unlike continuous cell lines, cell strains have a finite lifespan and eventually undergo senescence. They retain more characteristics of the original tissue than immortalized cell lines.
