Cerenkov effect
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001820
The emission of electromagnetic radiation that occurs when a charged particle traverses a dielectric medium at a speed exceeding the phase velocity of light within that specific medium. This phenomenon results in a characteristic blue glow, often observed in nuclear reactors. The emitted radiation can range from ultraviolet to visible light.
