Checkpoint pathway

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001925

A biochemical signaling network that monitors the integrity of the genome and the proper progression of the cell cycle. These pathways can halt cell cycle progression at specific phases, such as G1, S, or G2/M, in response to DNA damage or other cellular stresses, allowing time for repair. For example, the p53 protein acts as a transcription factor that can induce cell cycle arrest or apoptosis following the detection of DNA damage.
