Cell cycle
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-001776
The ordered sequence of events through which a cell duplicates its contents and divides into two daughter cells. This process consists of four distinct phases: G1 (gap 1), S (synthesis, where DNA is replicated), G2 (gap 2), and M (mitosis, where the cell divides). The duration of the cycle varies between organisms and cell types, with a typical human cell taking about 24 hours to complete it.
