Contact potential difference

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002483

The difference in electrostatic potential that arises when two dissimilar conducting materials are brought into electrical contact. This potential difference is due to the differing work functions of the materials, leading to a net flow of electrons until equilibrium is reached. It is also known as the Volta potential difference.
