Cre/loxP
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-002669
A site-specific recombination system derived from bacteriophage P1, widely used in molecular biology to induce targeted genetic modifications in living organisms. The Cre recombinase enzyme recognizes specific loxP sites and mediates recombination between them, leading to excision, inversion, or translocation of DNA segments. This system is instrumental in creating conditional gene knockouts in mice.
