Developmental susceptibility gene
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003105
A gene whose product is required for normal development, and for which certain alleles or variants increase the risk of adverse outcomes following exposure to a toxicant. The specific polymorphism in the gene does not cause a defect on its own but modifies the organism's response to an environmental challenge. An example is a gene variant that alters the metabolism of a xenobiotic, leading to a higher concentration of a teratogenic metabolite.
