Electrodeposition
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003677
A process in which a coating of a substance, typically a metal, is deposited onto a conductive surface by means of an electric current. The material to be deposited is dissolved in an electrolyte, and an electric field causes its ions to migrate to the cathode, where they are reduced and form a solid layer. This technique is widely used for plating, refining, and fabricating materials.
