Electrorheological effect
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-003790
A phenomenon where the rheological properties, such as viscosity and yield stress, of a fluid change rapidly and reversibly upon the application of an electric field. Electrorheological fluids typically consist of polarizable particles suspended in an insulating liquid. This effect is exploited in smart fluids for applications like clutches, brakes, and vibration dampers.
