Fingerprint region

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004434

A specific range of wavenumbers in an infrared or Raman spectrum, generally between 1500 cm⁻¹ and 400 cm⁻¹, where complex vibrational modes of a molecule produce a unique pattern of absorption or scattering bands. This region is highly characteristic of the entire molecule and is used for compound identification. The intricate patterns in this area are sensitive to subtle structural differences.
