Group frequency
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005039
A characteristic vibrational frequency in an infrared or Raman spectrum that is associated with the stretching or bending motion of a specific functional group within a molecule. These frequencies are relatively independent of the rest of the molecular structure, allowing for the identification of functional groups. For example, the carbonyl stretching frequency typically appears around 1700 cm⁻¹.
