Forssman antigen

A glycolipid heterophile antigen found on the cell surfaces of many animal species, but not in humans, except in certain tumor cells. It consists of a specific carbohydrate sequence that can elicit an immune response in species lacking it. This antigen is used in diagnostic tests for infectious mononucleosis.
