Förster cycle
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004601
A thermodynamic cycle that relates the difference in pKa values of a molecule in its ground electronic state and its excited electronic state to the difference in the 0-0 transition energies. This cycle allows for the determination of the pKa of an excited state species from spectroscopic measurements. It is based on the assumption that the entropy change upon excitation is negligible.
