Froth flotation

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004687

A process for separating hydrophobic materials from hydrophilic ones by suspending them in a liquid and introducing gas bubbles. Hydrophobic particles attach to the bubbles and are carried to the surface, forming a froth that can be skimmed off, while hydrophilic particles remain in the liquid. This technique is widely used in mineral processing to concentrate ores, such as those containing copper or lead sulfides.
