Fuel reprocessing

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004693

The chemical and physical treatment of spent nuclear fuel to separate reusable fissile and fertile materials, such as uranium and plutonium, from radioactive waste products. This process aims to recover valuable components for reuse in nuclear reactors and to reduce the volume and radiotoxicity of high-level waste. The PUREX process is a widely used method for this purpose.
