Fulgides
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004696
Photochromic compounds that are dialkylidene (bis-methylene) derivatives of succinic anhydride, usually carrying aryl or heteroaryl groups on the exocyclic double bonds. On irradiation with UV light the colorless E form undergoes a six-electron electrocyclic ring closure to a colored cyclized isomer, and visible light reverses it. Their imide analogues are called fulgimides.
