Γ-quantum
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004972
A discrete packet of electromagnetic energy, also known as a photon, emitted from an atomic nucleus during a nuclear transition. These quanta are typically of very high energy, much higher than X-rays, and are a form of ionizing radiation. The energy of a gamma quantum is characteristic of the specific nuclear energy level transition from which it originates.
