Geminate ion pair
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-004802
An ion pair formed from a single ionization event, where the cation and anion remain in close proximity to each other, often within the solvent cage. These ions have a high probability of recombining before diffusing apart into the bulk solution. Their behavior is distinct from that of free ions or solvent-separated ion pairs.
