Greenhouse effect
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005027
The process by which certain gases in Earth's atmosphere trap heat, warming the planet's surface. These gases absorb infrared radiation emitted from the surface and re-radiate it in all directions, including back towards the surface. Carbon dioxide, methane, and water vapor are primary greenhouse gases.
