Heat shock proteins

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005148

A family of proteins that are expressed by cells in response to exposure to stressful conditions, including heat, cold, and oxidative stress. These proteins act as molecular chaperones, assisting in the proper folding of newly synthesized proteins and refolding misfolded or denatured proteins. They are classified into families based on their molecular weight, such as Hsp70 and Hsp90.
