Histones
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005318
A family of small, basic proteins found in the nuclei of eukaryotic cells, responsible for packaging deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) into structural units called nucleosomes. These proteins have a high content of positively charged amino acids, which allows them to bind tightly to the negatively charged DNA. There are five main classes of histones: H1, H2A, H2B, H3, and H4.
