The abbreviation for intramolecular charge transfer, a process where electron density shifts within a single molecule upon excitation. This phenomenon is observed in molecules containing both electron-donating and electron-accepting groups linked by a conjugated system. The extent of charge transfer can be quantified by changes in dipole moment or solvatochromic shifts in absorption and emission spectra.
