Twisted intramolecular charge transfer
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-012370
A photophysical process in molecules containing electron donor and acceptor groups connected by a single bond that allows torsional motion. Following photoexcitation, an electron is transferred from the donor to the acceptor, and the molecule relaxes by twisting around the connecting bond to form a new, stabilized excited state. This twisted intramolecular charge transfer (TICT) state is characterized by nearly perpendicular donor and acceptor planes and a large dipole moment, and its formation is highly dependent on solvent polarity.
