Immunosuppression

A reduction in the capacity of the immune system to mount a normal response to antigens or pathogens. This state can be induced deliberately by drugs to prevent organ transplant rejection or result from certain diseases, such as HIV infection. The condition is characterized by decreased antibody production, reduced cell-mediated immunity, or both.
