Inclusion body
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-005760
An abnormal, insoluble aggregate of protein or viral particles that forms within the nucleus or cytoplasm of a cell. These structures result from the misfolding and accumulation of specific proteins, a process associated with several neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. Inclusion bodies are identified through microscopy after specific staining, appearing as distinct, dense masses within the affected cells.
