Luminescent material
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-006810
A substance that emits light upon absorption of energy, through a process other than black-body radiation. In polymers, this emission results from the radiative recombination of charge carriers (electrons and holes) or the relaxation of an excited electronic state. The emitted light can be either fluorescence (a rapid process) or phosphorescence (a slower process), with applications in devices like organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs).
