Mechanically interlocked molecular architecture
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007112
A class of molecules where two or more components are linked not by covalent bonds, but by a mechanical bond, such as in catenanes or rotaxanes. These architectures involve components that are physically entangled or threaded through each other, preventing dissociation without breaking covalent bonds. The mechanical bond provides unique topological properties and dynamic behavior.
