Membrane-protected solid-phase microextraction

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007166

A variation of solid-phase microextraction (SPME) where the sorbent-coated fiber is shielded by a selective, microporous membrane. The membrane acts as a physical barrier, preventing large molecules, particles, and other matrix components from fouling the extraction phase while allowing smaller target analytes to pass through and adsorb onto the fiber. This technique is distinct from direct immersion SPME, where the bare fiber is exposed directly to the sample matrix.
