Mesothelium

A simple squamous epithelium that forms the lining of the serous membranes, such as the pleura, peritoneum, and pericardium. It provides a smooth, non-adhesive surface that allows organs to move freely within body cavities. This tissue secretes a lubricating fluid that reduces friction between organs.
