Metathesis polymerization

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007272

A polymerization in which unsaturated monomers become unsaturated polymers through redistribution of carbon-carbon double bonds, usually catalysed by metal carbene complexes of tungsten, molybdenum or ruthenium. Ring-opening metathesis polymerization of cyclic olefins is a chain polymerization, whereas acyclic diene metathesis polymerization proceeds by step growth and releases ethene.
