Multiple attenuated total reflection

Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007653

An optical technique where an infrared beam undergoes several internal reflections within a crystal, interacting with a sample placed on its surface at each reflection. This increases the effective path length of the evanescent wave within the sample, enhancing the sensitivity of the measurement. It is commonly used in Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy for analyzing opaque or highly absorbing materials.
