Myelotoxic
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007736
Describing a substance or agent that has a damaging effect on the bone marrow, leading to a reduction in the production of blood cells. This toxicity, known as myelosuppression, can affect the formation of erythrocytes, leukocytes, and platelets, thereby compromising the immune system and oxygen transport. Many cytotoxic chemotherapy agents used in cancer treatment exhibit myelotoxic properties, which often represents their primary dose-limiting toxicity.
