Nanoparticle
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007756
A particle whose equivalent diameter is roughly 1 to 100 nanometres, whatever its shape, so that all three of its dimensions lie at the nanoscale. Its optical absorption, melting point and reactivity can differ from those of the same material in bulk because of its size and large surface-to-volume ratio. Nanoparticles are distinct from nanofibres and nanoplates, which have only two or one nanoscale dimensions.
