Neuroma
Term · Chemistry · MLC-T-CHM-007882
A disorganized growth or tumor of nerve tissue that forms after a nerve is cut or damaged. It is not a true neoplasm but rather a reactive, painful proliferation of axons, Schwann cells, and connective tissue at the site of injury. A common example is Morton's neuroma, which affects the nerves between the toes and is characterized by a thickening of the tissue around the nerve.
